11. Katrina Amiria, NZ Touch Rugby Representative
Brief outline on who you are, your background, (occupation), where you live etc.
Kia Ora, my name is Katrina Amiria, my friends call me Kitty Kat. I’m a mum of three - my son is 6 and my girls are 8 and 2. We live in The Gardens in South Auckland. I’m an aircraft avionics engineer by trade. I’m currently working for a helicopter company as a programs manager. We have one fur baby, her name is Jane.
What is your chosen sport/occupation/passion/interest/hobby? What attracted you to this? Why do you love doing it?
I’m a touch rugby player. I’ve represented NZ three times, the latest being at the World Cup in Nottingham in July 2024. I’ve played for both mixed and women’s teams at this level. I’ve travelled to many parts of the world playing touch and coaching and have been lucky to play and learn with some of the best players in the world.
My highest achievement to date was a World Cup gold medal in the 30 Mxd team, and a silver in the last world cup playing 40W.
I play for Counties Manukau at provincial level and in modules for my clubs Galaxy and Titans. Last summer I coached our Galaxy U8 team which I really enjoyed.
What are the pros and cons of what you do? What would you consider your biggest achievement(s) to date? What would be your ultimate goal/dream/ destination/achievement.
I love this sport; it has allowed me to travel the world and meet so many amazing people. As a busy single mum, it gives me a physical outlet and reason to stay fit doing something I love. I love the strategic element of the game too. The comradery and lifelong friendships that I’ve made are priceless. I love getting out in the elements whether it’s a scorching hot field in Australia or mid-winter wind and rain in Auckland.
This winter my two eldest and I are playing together in a whanau team. It doesn’t get better than that. I hope one day they get as much out of this sport as I have.
I have several tournaments I’m targeting over the next couple of years with the ultimate goal competing at the next World Cup in NZ in 2028.
How does X-ZONE help you to achieve your goals?
X-Zone helps me achieve my sporting goals. X-Zone Relief Rub is my go-to for pain relief after intense training sessions or injuries. Being a more mature player still trying to keep up with the young ones, ‘body management’ is crucial. I love that it used NZ natural products too.
I like the X-Zone Sports Rub pre-game with the roll-on applicator being really handy and easy to apply. No messy, slippery hands after. It was a popular tool at our last World Cup, and we were grateful to X-Zone for giving us the opportunity to use it.
